Bedspread (Colcha), 1786
Embroidered by Doña Rosa Solís y Menéndez
Mexican (Mérida/Yucatán)
Colored silks on weft-faced rib weave, cotton groundThis spread was probably part of a wedding trousseau. Present in textiles of Europe and the Americas at this time, the embroidered pattern of parallel ribbons entwined with scrolling vines found its way onto Mexican ceramics as well.
